Owners often assume a penalty. The boring explanation is more common: the listing does not look like an HVAC company, the service area is a metro blob, or the search happened on the other side of Fort Worth. Walk the checks in order before you buy a content mill or a fake pin.
Confirm you are actually missing it
Search from an incognito window, on a phone, from the neighborhood you care about — not from the shop Wi‑Fi. Branded search proving you exist is not the same as ranking for AC repair.
Write down the three names Google showed. You are comparing against them, not against a national average.
Category and services first
If the primary category is wrong, Maps is solving a different query. HVAC contractor is the usual fix. Services should name repair and install if that is the work.
A listing with no services, no photos, and last year’s holiday hours looks abandoned next to three complete competitors.
Service area sprawl
Claiming Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and Denton on a single listing does not make you closer to all of them. It often makes you less relevant to all of them.
Tighten to where you actually run. If you want south Fort Worth jobs from a north-side shop, say south Fort Worth in the area and on a page — do not invent a downtown pin.
When distance is the answer
If you are fifteen miles from the searcher and three complete HVAC companies sit in between, completeness will not teleport you. You can still win jobs you are close enough for. That is the honest conversation.
